Gonzalez & Jacobson Architecture shares this post today: How the Land Defines Architecture: Our Strategy for 8 Villas in Marbella.

An architectural firm with a presence on the Costa del Sol, Malaga, for over 30 years, creating wonderful, functional, and timeless spaces.

The architectural firm, in its account and the opportunity to develop a new project for 8 luxury villas in Nueva Andalucía, Marbella, comments:

…” When we face a new project, one of the most important questions has nothing to do with materials or styles. The first big decision is: Where and how will each home be located?

See before designing

Before starting to draw, we conducted an exhaustive study of the site. We didn’t want to limit the design to what the regulations “fit” or “allow,” but rather to understand how the landscape, views, topography, and orientation could make each villa a unique piece within the complex.

We asked ourselves:

  • What does each villa see from its main floor?
  • How does the sun move during the day?
  • How high can one home reach without obscuring the views of another?

Each answer led us to refine the positioning and design.

Designing without hierarchies

One of the most important objectives was to prevent some villas from dominating others. This required a comprehensive implementation. Strategically, taking advantage of the uneven terrain and creating an interior street that organizes the access points without detracting from the surroundings.

The result is a balanced complex, where each villa has its own character and views, but all share the same spatial quality.

Architecture that listens to the place

This project reaffirms something we firmly believe in: good architecture does not impose itself on the landscape, it dialogues with it. Listening to what the terrain tells us is what makes a project not only successful, but also transcendent.

Next steps

We have just presented the basic project, meeting the proposed objectives in terms of integration, design, and functionality. Now, we are preparing to begin the execution project phase, where we will continue to fine-tune every technical detail to make this unique complex of villas in Marbella a reality.

This and much more is Gonzalez & Jacobson Architecture, a studio that, before starting to design, reflects and considers every detail, the feasibility of the project, and how to cause the least possible environmental impact.
