The Rock of Gibraltar bids farewell to its current cable car and opens the door to the renovation of its facilities. The project is expected to take approximately two years. Gonzalez & Jacobson, a prestigious architecture firm located on the Costa del Sol in Málaga, will be responsible for the interior design. The wait will undoubtedly be worthwhile. It is anticipated that the new cable car will receive more than 2,000 visitors per day.
The Gibraltarian media are covering the history of the cable car, with a look back at its 60 years and an editorial about its final journey before being dismantled.
This project, which has been assigned to Gonzalez & Jacobson, architects in Marbella, has been in development for some time and has even been shared with you in other posts. It’s time to revisit it and share the start of construction and future progress. Details and aspects that must be considered in this type of work at great heights have been fine tuned.
The design project for the cable car and viewpoint is based on a tourism experience concept that, in addition to being entertaining, is educational, sustainable, accessible to all types of visitors, safe, considers the maintenance and care of biodiversity, ensures coexistence with the barbary macaque population, and has the least possible visual impact.
