Gonzalez & Jacobson Architecture presents a residential project in Malaga that integrates principles of Mediterranean architecture with a contemporary interpretation, evident in the building’s volume and the treatment of materials. The composition is organized on two main levels, characterized by a solid base of exposed stone masonry, which anchors the building to the terrain and conveys a sense of robustness and tradition.
Above this base rises an upper volume with white-plastered walls, visually lightening the structure and maximizing the entry of natural light. The gabled roof with terracotta ceramic tiles is a distinctive feature of the Mediterranean style, providing warmth and harmonious integration with natural or rural surroundings.
Elements such as the balconies with wrought iron railings not only serve a safety function but also add an ornamental detail reminiscent of traditional craftsmanship. The presence of arcades and covered porches demonstrates a consideration for the transition between interior and exterior spaces, optimizing liveability and thermal comfort by providing shaded areas.
The openings, mostly rectangular and vertically proportioned, are complemented by wooden shutters that regulate sunlight and privacy. A circular window on one of the facades stands out, introducing a focal point and breaking the linearity of the composition, adding a unique design element. The integration of a swimming pool and paved outdoor areas underscores the home’s focus on outdoor living and leisure.
Overall, the architectural project proposal achieves a balance between traditional aesthetics and the modern functional demands of contemporary architecture, using simple yet highly expressive materials to define an architecture that projects character and a clear identity.
